The History of Kitchen Design

According to the BBC, the kitchen is probably the most valued room in your home. This is why carrying out a kitchen refurbishment in Guildford can be so stressful. Around a hundred years ago, small kitchens were the height of fashion and some experts thought that they might disappear altogether. But things changed and we now spend just as much time in the kitchen as we always have.

What are the benefits of kitchen islands?

Kitchen islands can offer additional seating, often provided by bar stools. They are a perfect setting for casual coffees with friends and for kids to do their homework whilst you prepare dinner. They also add storage space and food preparation spaces which are at a premium in many kitchens.

Is a kitchen island right for your home?

If you are planning a kitchen refurbishment Guildford, there are plenty of examples of island designs such as those seen here: https://www.thekitchenrefurbishmentcompany.co.uk.

However, you still have to decide if this design feature is right for you. For example, if you have a young family, a traditional dining table may be a better option for family meals.

If you don’t want to sit around the kitchen island, you could choose a different design, one that is used just for storage and food preparation.

Sitting around a kitchen island sounds like a lovely idea in theory, but will it work in practice in your home? The problem with having a lot of bodies around the kitchen island is that it can become quite congested. In some cases, it could even be dangerous if hot food has to be carried over people’s heads!

Whilst many people are still choosing to install a kitchen island, they are now thinking carefully about how they would use it rather than just wanting to be trendy.
