Getting the Garden Ready for the Summer

February is here and we are starting to see the signs of spring arriving as new life starts to appear, letting us know that winter is at an end. This is a busy time if you are hoping to get out in the garden and start making improvements.

Creating a garden space that works for you is something that can help you to get the most out of the garden. We all want something different from the garden depending on our lifestyle and the size of the garden that we have available.

First of all, no matter what plans you have for the garden, start with a garden tidy up. After the winter, there is likely to be a lot of debris around the garden to sort out and clear up. Fallen leaves are one thing, as well as the many plants that will need to be cared for and cut back, especially if they have been damaged by bad weather.

Go through your pots and have a sort out in the greenhouse to get everything ready for the spring. If you are going to be planting seeds, now is the time to start planning where you are going to plant each thing and also stocking up on all the seeds that you will need so that you have them ready for when you need them.

If you are planning to do more work to your garden to get it ready for the summer, start planning now. If it is a big job, then you will want to work out what your budget is for it to ensure that it can all be done. For example, you might want to create a decked area for entertaining, or make a space for the kids to play in.

You can also do things in your garden to help the local wildlife. Putting up bird boxes is a good idea at this time of the year as birds will be looking for places to build their nests, and planting flowers for pollinators helps the bees and butterflies to thrive.
