Three Common Boiler Problems

We rely on our heating working well in the home to keep us cosy and warm as well as for our hygiene – heating water so that we can wash our crockery as well as ourselves. When something goes wrong with our heating, it can be really difficult, and we realise how dependent we are on this constant availability of heat and hot water.

Something that you must do when this happens is to get a professional like this boiler servicing Cheltenham based company www.blu-fish.co.uk/gas-heating-services-cheltenham/boiler-repair-cheltenham/ to look at it and repair it for you. This is not something that you should ever attempt to do yourself, as it is incredibly dangerous to tamper with gas when you don’t know what you are doing or have not been fully trained to do so.

When it comes to boilers there are some problems that may occur with them which are more common than others – here are a few of the most common boiler problems that you might encounter when you are having central heating trouble…

Strange Noises in the Boiler – Boilers that are not working correctly can make many unusual noises, most meaning that there is a problem. It may be a gurgling sound which usually indicates that there is some trapped air in there somewhere, it may be humming, which could mean the water pressure is too high, or it could be whistling which usually means that the water is heating too quickly and causing steam to form, like a kettle.

Pilot Light Going Out – This is more commonly a problem with older types of boilers, where the light needs to be on all the time to keep the burner going. The parts that keep this alight can become damaged or faulty over time and this is what normally causes this to happen. It is likely that you will need a part replaced.

Low Pressure in the Boiler – When you have no hot water this may be the cause. You will be able to tell if it is by looking on your boiler where you will see the pressure indicator. If this is below 1 bar, then it is likely that this is the cause of your hot water problems. It can be down to a leak somewhere which will keep making the pressure drop or air trapped in radiators, which can be resolved by bleeding the radiators.
